Hi, my name is Blog Pirate, and I am an ice cream addict.
I am not sure what started my lusting for the velvety smooth scoops of sugar filled perfection. I started eating ice cream in mass quantities about 8 months ago and haven't stopped for even a day since then.
I don't have a good excuse as to why I started my fling with the oh, so sweet treat. I didn't start after a breakup, tooth surgery, or because I am overly obese over-eater. In fact, I am in good shape and exercise for about 30 minutes everyday doing some sort of aerobic workout walking, jogging, or lifting weights. I just love the way ice cream tastes and the chocolate- god bless the chocolate! I usually devour about 3-4 generous scoops at each sitting and this can happen 2-3 times a night, and I mean every night. I have tried to go a day or two without my calcium rich concoction, but I will always find some excuse to go to the nearest grocery store and pick up a 1/2 gallon of sweet salvation.
I crave the ice cream. I NEED the ice cream like a diabetic needs insulin. If I do manage to trick myself somehow into skipping that night's bowl of my favorite meal of the day, I begin dreaming how I will wake up tomorrow, go to work, and pick some more ice cream on the way home.
When I do have my sugary companion in front of my face with cold smoke rolling from its cream covered hills like a dense fog rising in the English countryside, I search for condiments. Usually it's dry-roasted peanuts and Hershey's syrup. Sometimes if I can find it on sale- I will buy a jar of mixed nuts with almonds, walnuts, and macadamias which are a perfect addition to the top of the cream covered mounds. And if caramel syrup is on sale, I might pick up one jar of that also.
My favorite flavor is Publix "Moose Tracks". It is chocolate ice cream with miniature peanut butter cups surrounded by swirls of thick chocolate fudge. Every spoonful is pure bliss! It reminds me of the awesome creamy gelatos I had while touring parts of Italy. I have tried many different flavors and brands and this is by far the best.
Breyers ice cream is ok, but Edy's is better. I really like their "Reeces Peanut Butter" and chocolate ice cream. Ben and Jerry's is the bomb and I really like their "Phish Food" which is chocolate ice cream with small chocolate fish and marshmallow swirls. B and J also have a great cookie dough flavor which is one of the best I've had.
Haagen Daz's is good but definitely not the best. Ben and Jerry's is better.
Blue Bell seemed like it had so much promise to be a great ice cream, but it turned out to be one of the worst. The ice cream was not creamy and seemed 'dry'. After scooping it out of the carton, it just fell apart like it was made out of shards of ice. And there wasn't much flavor at all. Very disappointing.
I do like the ice cream from "Cold Stone" and "Marble Slab" businesses, but the cost is prohibitive from eating there that often. And I would say that the Pulbix premium brand Ice Cream I mentioned above comes close or is even better than what these retail outlets have to offer.
I have tried other grocery stores premium brands of ice cream such as Winn-Dixie and Target, but most don't even come close to the Publix brand. And no, I do not work for Publix and unfortunately have never received any free ice cream from them, but I do know a good ice cream when I taste one!
So, what's the flavor that rocks your boat and are you really an addict, or a casual creamer???
